Now, let me state my decision just made recently. I will move to United States soon!
As written in this previous article, I have opened an account in United States (Firstrade Securities) and started investing in stocks and ETFs in the account. This experience, in fact, attracts me so mach because of much more alternatives than those we can reach using Japanese brokerage firm and much more convenient systems such as DRIP.
However, I am now intrested in investing using United States brokerage firms. Mutual funds, even active funds, are no less attractive than ETFs in costs and strategies. Options are much easier to use than in Japan so that I can try several strategies. Special accounts for long term investments, such as IRAs, are more useful than NISA. Now, I want to try them by all means!
But there are several difficulties. Some people say that nonresident of United States can't invest in mutual funds. Using options and other derivatives may make it very hard and complicated to file income tax returns to tax office of both Japan and United States. IRA account is meaningless for nonresident of United States.
Finally, I made up my mind to move to United States. Becoming a resident of United States will resolve those problems!
Fortunately, my business skill, accounting, can help me get a new job in United States. Accounting is the skill common in any country, and I have knowledge not only of JA GAAP but also a bit of US GAAP.
Now why don't I move to United States and enjoy superior investment experiences? Please look forward to future articles about life and investment in United States.
